Ladies and gentlemen and those otherwise concerned, tonight we would like to proudly present our debut act...
Amelia Bela Jones
Earhart

23 | Female |
Heterosexual | Actress; singer |
Actress (5 years) Singer (9 years) |
Act 1
Strawberry blonde | Cerulean blue |
Lightly tanned | 5'4" |
Slim, fit
Amelia likes to keep her hair short for convenience and also because she likes being, well, a little different. She's stubborn about it too; she won't just take on long hair because society demands it. Originally she had long hair, but she cut it off a while back. It's rather curly and bounces around a lot. From time to time, she'll secure it with a clip.
Nothing special around here, but Amelia does have a double piercing in both ears. Earrings will change on an almost day to day basis; she can't seem to stick with anything.
Amelia apparently has "a cute nose." She really doesn't like it much (though thankfully now it's much less noticeable). It looks a little bit like a ski jump and arcs slightly upwards at the end.

Act 2
Personality
Amelia is a very outgoing and sociable person. She adores people and dislikes being alone for extended periods of time. She'll often strike up conversations with random members of the cast and crew on set and though she may not act like it, Amelia is surprisingly good at listening. She has a talent for remembering names and is impressively good at matching names to faces.Amelia is very comfortable being herself and acts very confident about herself. To some extent, this is a cover (she can definitely find numerous faults about herself), but generally speaking, Amelia's comfortable in her own skin. Her confidence is often contagious and she knows how to make other people feel better about themselves in the process.
A bit of a dreamer, Amelia wants to do everything. She wants to sing and act and direct and maybe even write a screenplay someday. And of course, possibly pilot a plane because who doesn't want to do that? There's nothing wrong with aiming high and reaching far. Thinking optimistically is Amelia's strongest trait. Sometimes she overestimates how much she can do or how far she can go, sometimes she fails and of course that's discouraging, but you'll always find her back on her feet. Amelia's not one to give up easily.
Despite her brashness, Amelia is understanding. She is loyal through and through, especially towards her friends. She's had issues with her family before, but deep down she still loves them and cares for them. She is a friend that will be with you through thick or thin, no matter what happens.
Although Amelia doesn't think of herself as such, she is also brave, or at least daring. She is always eager to try something new, always eager to jump in and participate. She loves languages and people and food and new things because she's had a taste of adventure and she can't help but feel attracted to it.
Amelia holds strong expectations for herself and strong morals as well. She has her own definition of "right" and "wrong" and although she recognizes that the world isn't black and white, you'll have a lot of difficulty convincing Amelia to do "the wrong thing." She wants to change the world...but right now, all she can really change is herself.
Amelia can be extremely strong willed and stubborn, sometimes unnecessarily so. She's cooperative, usually, but if you snap at her she'll probably snap back. She doesn't take shit from people. When she really wants something, there's little anyone can do to stop her from getting it.
Raised in Texas, Amelia doesn't exactly eat healthy. She's been trying to, but to be quite frank, it just doesn't suit her taste to choke down seven health smoothies and two handfuls of celery. She can be a bit of a glutton and she's never weaned herself from visiting McDonalds.
Amelia doesn't back down from a fight. Not to say that she isn't polite (which she is!), but she'll stand up for her beliefs until the end. Some people may view this as brave, but sometimes it's rather detrimental. Often, Amelia wishes she could hold her tongue, but sometimes she just ends up saying things she ends up regretting. She'll come around and apologize later...unless she thinks you're the one who should be apologizing. Then she might simply ignore you until the situation fades.
Some people view Amelia as naïve, with how overly friendly she can be. That's true to some extent. Amelia likes to think that most people are inherently good and that justice always wins. But she's not without her reservations and the deeper she moves into the business, the more she learns this.
Amelia likes to be independent and she's somewhat prideful in that way. Amelia works well in teams but she's also determined to prove her self-reliance when the situation calls for it. This probably started from when she was constantly being mocked for "being a girl" and supposedly not good enough to challenge the boys. Amelia admits her weakness in this area and she's been trying hard to work at it.
Quirks
Accent - Although she chose to adapt in California, Amelia still holds a slight Southern accent in her words. It's not as audible now, but when she gets mad or excited, it will slip in automatically. It also presents itself in the way she talks.Talking - To cover up when she's feeling uncomfortable or when things seem awkward, Amelia often resorts to talking. She's very good at holding a conversation and it's definitely the easiest way to move onto the next topic.
Laughter - Amelia laughs a lot. It rings out fairly clearly and many people have told her that it makes them smile when she laughs. She never laughs in a rude manner or when it's not appropriate to do so, but if the opportunity presents itself, Amelia sees no reason to hold back.
Act 3
Likes Music - How can she not? Amelia was a singer after all. She used to listen to strictly country music but now she's expanded to include rock and some pop music.Food - Growing up on a ranch, everyone eats a lot. You have to, to keep up with the work. For a while Amelia was a bit chubby. Although she is no longer so, she loves food and could never give it up. She tries to eat healthy, but no one can stay away from burgers for very long. Coffee - Amelia has to start every morning with a cup of coffee. Starbucks is her favorite, even if it is very expensive. Movies - She's an actress, how can she not like movies? She loves watching them and she's always admired the actors and actresses in them. Particularly Scarlett Johansson—that woman is literal perfection. Natasha Romanoff is one of Amelia's greatest heroes and role models. Being on set - There is still something about being on set that makes it so exciting. It hasn't quite lost its charm for Amelia yet. Perhaps one day it will, but she doesn't think so. It's not just the acting...it's the cast, the camera crew, the makeup crew, the directors, the lights. Of course, it does ruin the magic a little, seeing where it all happens, but there's a magic to that as well. Winning - Amelia is a naturally competitive person and she takes a deep pleasure in winning. She's not snobby about it, but she does prefer to come out on top. Planes - Amelia one day wants to fly a plane. Yes, you heard her right. One of her role models is Amelia Earhart, whom she was named after. That can't be a coincidence. People - Sure, there are some nasty people out there, but Amelia generally believes that there's something good in everyone. Plus she just doesn't do well alone. Travel - One of the reasons why she thought acting would be different and a nice change was the fact that, if she landed herself a role in the right movie, she might be able to travel to film scenes. Amelia would love to see the world. Languages - Amelia has a knack for languages and a deep appreciation for them. She's always been a very curious person and even though she's lived in Texas for most of her life, Amelia still strives to learn as many languages as she possibly can. | Dislikes Losing - Amelia hates losing. She has a very competitive nature. Not to the point that she would ever cheat to win (that's just immoral), but she will be terse and snappy after a loss.Intolerance - Amelia can't stand people who are close-minded. She'll respect your beliefs (to some extent. Some are just plain wrong...) but if you're treating anyone differently for being themselves, prepare to get smacked. Salads - She just...doesn't. It's not filling, even if you have chicken or whatever in it. Maybe as a starter, sure, but is that really all you're gonna eat? Failure - Sometimes, things fall through. Amelia doesn't like that. She likes succeeding and she'll blame herself for failure. For at least a day or two after failing something important, Amelia is prone to being moody and short tempered. After that though, she's usually fine and she recovers fairly quickly, using her failure as motivation for moving forwards. Blonde jokes - Amelia likes jokes alright, just not...blonde jokes. She's not an idiot, she knows exactly what you're saying. It's sometimes difficult as a new actress if you're blonde. People assume you're just a run-of-the-mill kid who doesn't know anything. To be quite honest, they piss her off. Staying in one place - Amelia used to be quite happy just staying in Texas. But now she prefers change. "It is so hard to leave until you leave. And then it is the easiest goddamn thing in the world." It's not that she has commitment issues...it's just that she'd rather be on the move. Reliance - When you're a girl in the middle of Texas, you learn quickly that if you can't keep up, you're basically useless. Amelia dislikes relying on others for guidance or help. She thinks that she herself can do almost anything. Of course, she knows her boundaries and if there's someone much more fitting for the job she'll let them take over, but if it seems relatively simple, Amelia's convinced she can do it. Injustice - Amelia has a very strong sense of what is right and what is wrong. She tries not to judge or to jump to conclusions, but it's sometimes a little tough for her. In particular, she dislikes cheaters since she had to work hard to get where she is. |
Aspirations Win an Oscar - The same dream everyone has in Hollywood, the ultimate prize. An Oscar. What more is there to be said? She'd like to win one for Best Actress someday.Cure for cancer - Yet another somewhat outlandishly big dream, but it has to be out there somewhere. Amelia knows she herself can't find it...but maybe someone else can. Reunite her family - Deep down inside, Amelia knows there's no fixing her broken family. Not without her sister, not with her father and mother ignoring each other (and her ignoring both of them). But she misses how they were before her sister died and secretly wishes that they could just be a family again. | Insecurities Accent - Amelia likes her Southern accent, she really does. But ever since she moved to California, she's been working to hide it. Her agent tells her that unless she wants to be stuck playing a cowgirl for the rest of her career, she has to lose the accent. It makes her feel as if there's something wrong with being Southern...but if it gets her to where she wants to be...Zombies - Amelia really...does not like zombies. They're creepy, the undead. If people are going to die, they should stay dead, not come back to life. Weight - Amelia's not overweight by any definition, but it's difficult not to feel insecure when you're surrounded by actors and actresses who are so much thinner. Not to mention when she lived in Texas, Amelia developed a very large appetite. She was chubby for quite a long period of her life (though really, most people are surprisingly chubby on a ranch). Now she's already thinned down a lot but she's not beyond worrying about her weight. Acting - Amelia acts confident, but as far as acting goes, she knows she's far from experienced. Some people have been acting since they were in their preteens or even younger! It's difficult to imagine her beating them out on certain roles. She does take negative feedback on her acting a little bit personally, but Amelia tries her best to work through that. She's very good at recovering from failure, if that says anything about her. |
Epilogue
Background
Amelia was born in Houston, Texas twenty-three years ago on July 4th as the first child to two loving parents. For the first few years of her life, she grew up on horseback and she adored it. The country, the people, the South...screw the people who made fun of them or looked down on them or sneered at them. This was life. Living free. Amelia was happy with being a country girl. As a child, Amelia was a handful. She had big dreams—bigger than Texas—but for now she was content staying there. Her sister, seven years younger, was then born. Alicia Caroline Jones. Perhaps it was the age difference, but the two rarely fought and Amelia doted on her sister. She was sweet and innocent and cute. How could she not?
Amelia had a relatively steady childhood, well liked and popular. She was a bit of a tomboy (still is); riding in the rodeo, training horses, roping cattle...she did it all and more. The community was set in its norms and Amelia chose to push back on those expectations. She couldn't just sit there and take the lingering racism and sexism. And eventually it became clear: like it or not, Amelia Jones was here to stay.
Amelia always admired country singers. Sure, some people really dissed on country, but it was the music she grew up on. So at the age of 14, Amelia began recording albums. They were played at the local pub first, then at larger events, until someone asked her to sign a contract and began to professionally sing.
At 16, her sister, Alicia, developed acute leukemia. It was around this time that Amelia's songs began to change, moving away from country and exploring darker themes. While her sister was sick, her parents began to argue more. Amelia's mother wanted to move to somewhere where they could find better doctors, better treatments. Amelia's father insisted they could do that here, that they couldn't give up the ranch. Conflicted and confused, Amelia withdrew.
At the age of 9, Alicia Caroline Jones died.
Amelia cut off her hair.
Her parents divorced. Her mother picked up her bags and took her remaining daughter, despite her protests, to San Francisco.
It was a terrible year to go. Right in the middle of the college process with Amelia having lost track of any and every dreams she had held. The odds were not in Amelia's favor.
But she wasn't just going to give up there. Amelia packed her grief away with her cowboy boots. She burned through the sadness and anger in songs. Song after song after song. Part of her was angry at her father, for not trying harder. Part of her was angry at her mother, for being selfish and taking her away. Part of her was angry at her sister for dying. And part of her was angry at herself. Things had to change because change was good because change kept you moving forwards. So Amelia changed. Changed her accent to fit in, changed her songs to reach a wider audience. She achieved a little fame in her singing career.
But Amelia was also tired of singing. Not enough to give up on it but...Amelia was a little lost.
So her dreams of being a singer changed too.
It was California. What the hell.
Amelia chose acting. No, scratch that. Amelia chose everything.
When she turned 18 and graduated from high school with flying colors, Amelia headed to Los Angeles. Part of her was still angry. Good riddance to her mother and her father. Amelia wanted freedom. And that was selfish but Amelia wanted to be selfish.
It was hard, trying to act. There was so much to learn. Secretly, it intimidated Amelia. Everyone was "special" here, everyone outgoing, everyone believed they were destined for greatness. She found a group of friends, but they weren't her friends from home. She didn't trust them in the same way, because people here cheated and backstabbed and played dirty and Amelia didn't like it. She didn't descend to their level. Her friends were amongst the better of them, but far from innocent. It was an eye opener. During this time, Amelia lost weight, both from stress and from peer pressure.
Amelia still had her singing career going, but as she took acting classes it became harder to dedicate time to both. Others were more experienced than her. Amelia had only her singing and acting in that last year in high school.
The first audition was the hardest. It was weeks of checking the mailbox, weeks of emptiness, then one note. "We're sorry, but we had many talented auditions and you just weren't the one we were looking for. Thank you for your time." That was it. Amelia crumpled the note up and tossed it in the trash.
Third time was the charm, and she was very very lucky for it as well. Talented and hardworking, perhaps, but still lucky. Just a small role, with no more than five lines, but Amelia was ecstatic. She'd take it. She'd take anything.
Amelia landed bigger roles. Slowly, slowly, she built up her resume. Then she began to take more chances. Try auditioning for bigger movies. Bigger roles. There was a high she got from it. But Amelia didn't plan to stop there. She planned to do everything. Act, write, direct...she wanted it all.
And that's where she is now. Working her way up the ladder. She's an up and coming actress, a star in the making. Amelia believes she's destined for great things, to change the world even. Because that's what fame is about, right? Making a difference out there. Amelia isn't a scientist, but she wants to help find a cure for cancer and maybe if she can earn enough money and advocate for it, she can do it this way.
