Lean muscular
Donald is tall, built, but a bit more on the skinny side thanks to his swimming hobby. He has Gaelic tattoos on his arm, back, and internal obliques. This (is my anatomy practice) pretty much shows him, though he is much leaner than this.
Act 2
Personality
Contrary to the belief that gingers have no soul, Donald's got plenty. He's the life of the crowd, quickest to laugh, the easiest to smile, and a pious one to boot. The way he doffs his flat cap, radiate with debonair, and how he lends an arm for a landing makes him seem as if he is from a different time. He's an old-fashioned gent, full of colorful mannerisms and gibber-jabber. He is an all around people-pleaser--pleasant and polite, out-going and friendly, and speaks often with a spark in his eyes. Aye, he speaks aplenty, about grand adventures and outrageous stories.
It is a saying that the people who appear the happiest are often the saddest people. Behind the cheerful whistle and glinting grins, there's a deep, lurching demon that gnaws within. That is one of the many mysteries about the colorful Irish gentleman.
+ Vibrant: Of course! The Irish are said to have the wonderfully colorful sorts of personalities. Donald is no exclusion! He's blooded Irish, and his heart is in Belfast, where things get a little more exciting with his brogue. Donald is, in short, one of the most spirited and lively person all around. There's always a sort of flame within him whenever he moves or talks. He's the type that you know has a lot of stories to tell.
+ Out-going: He's a people-person, most definitely. Donald's not afraid to get out of his comfort zone and just socialize. Hell, he loves being around people. It makes him excited! It is no surprise that he has a vast amount of friends, and a good chunk of them are just random, ordinary people. Donald has been getting this growing fanbase because of how casually he has been going around cities and stores. He strikes conversations with employees and passer-bys, all for the sake of a good exchange of mouthfulls.
+ Debonair: Donald is a dashing gent, to say the least. Clean cut, tidied up, and topped with an genuine grin, he stands tall like a soldier, but leans in during a good conversation. He had been fantasized as a man from a different time, a dandy from the 1920's or a prince from the Emerald isles--but no, not really. He just sticks to his old fashioned ways of masculinity and politeness.
+ Amicable: With all that was stated previously, Donald makes pleasant company. Granted, he does talk more than he listens, but he generally knows how to behave when he wants the favor of a social situation. He has a sort of magnetic appeal when it comes to drawing in people. Luckily, he is improving his ability to maintain long friendships, so that makes his reputation all the better.
+ Chivalrous: As mentioned before, he's a bit old fashioned when it comes to treating other people. Maybe it is just a romanticized sort of 'old-fashioned', but he is very strict in his beliefs of treating people properly. Donald has a great respect for people, regardless of belief, age, gender, and race. He may not agree with all of the myriad of opinions that people have, but he will always treat people properly.
As the basics of chivalry goes, Donald opens doors for people, pulls seats for people (sometimes---mostly women he intends to date), picks up things that were dropped for people, and never makes the first move of intimacy. You can say he's really conservative with intimacy; he dares not kiss the girl or even touch her without her consent. Because he was raised to act this way, Donald does these 'outdated' things naturally, which sometimes earn suspicion and scorn. Being the ever people-pleaser, he has it in the right mind to apologize and refrain from his chivalry if it is a sensitive thing to do.
+/- Bold: Donald... takes too many risks. A lot of risks, actually. He is indeed lucky, however--that is perhaps the only component of his bones. Without his luck, he'd fall apart, simply because of his daring affinity do bold things. Whether it the daredevil's flare in action, the breath of lady luck on the dice, a marketing move, or a semi-controversial statement on air, Donald seriously relies on his luck to bail him out.
Donald appears to be the sensible man, but he has sporadic moments of serious 'do first, think later'. He hasn't gotten in trouble for anything too badly yet, but these luck debts are piling up.
+/- Selfless: Now you can guess that Donald is a pretty selfless person. He's caring, incredibly so. He hates seeing someone hurt; he hates seeing someone cry. Donald really goes out there to give aid when it is needed. Yet this soft heart of his usually makes him blind to manipulative people. Surely enough, Donald has common sense--he can spot out a flamboyant gold digger by the sashaying and the purrs. But, the manipulative ones with the silken words, aye, he'll fall for it and will rescue anyone in distress.
He has been walked all over on--countless of times. He says that he is alright with being 'used and abused', but sometimes it does hurt his feelings.
Despite that, he remains true on his passion to help others.
+/- Fervidly talkative: A naturally born orator, Donald talks a lot. No. Not joking. He talks... a lot. His accent is thick whenever he really gets into the topic. Like he will talk very quickly and he won't stop until he thinks he should stop. He gets so animated with his hand gestures, and his facial expressions, and his movement here and there and these tangents about this and that and how it all comes together under this umbrella philosophy of---!
Yeah. You might want to be careful about getting on one of his 'ardent topics' because you will learn a hell of a lot of words you won't understand. This can be annoying and exhausting to other people, and oh Donald tries so hard to keep it in but sometimes, he just can't stay silent! He's the guy that gets the last say, because no one can beat him in speech length!
- Nosy: This is mostly on accident. Whenever he asks something about another person's personal life, It is an attempt to get to know a person or strike a conversation. He gets a little anxious during prolonged silences, especially when he is around people who are near him.
- Intolerant: Just because Donald acts lax and carefree doesn't mean he's tolerant of everything about other people. Deep on the inside, he's as stubborn as he can be. Especially regarding his religion, he's not likely to be swayed by what other people say. The only times he will outrightly denounce something is if he is prodded to it in serious situations.
- Depressive: His laughs are full but it always trails off with an empty feeling. Donald is very prone to getting depressed, especially if he is stressed out. He also has a tendency to be attracted to people with emotional problems because he likes to help out. With all that exposure to negativity, Donald will also develop those emotional issues, little by little. Negative and sometimes suicidal thoughts are accompanied by what he calls 'his inner demons', and he has been fighting this since his teen years.
- Grudge-holder: They say forgive and then forget. He never forgets, and he likes to admit that he forgives. The problem is, he doesn't forgive so easily. Rushes of anger can intensify from unrelated past experiences of feeling insulted or damaged. Donald is especially unforgiving if he has an enemy.
- Conflictive:
Quirks
Donald is a dandy, and he's always dressed well no matter the occasion! He always keeps a blarney stone for good luck. Before doing something risky, he squeezes the stone in the palm of his hand. On Sundays, at church, he kisses it and makes a prayer.
He likes to munch on things all the time. The man is perpetually hungry, and his favorite snakes include french fries and potato chips (or Tayto crisps, as he calls them).
Because he has been living in the States for so long, he has less of a brogue whenever he talks on-air. However, it does slip sometimes! Whenever he's around a comfortable bevy of friends, there's a chance he unleashes the entirety of his native brogue tongue.
Donald can make a really good dolphin call. I don't know how this is useful but he can do this.
Act 3
Likes Alcohol: You can never get in between a man (ahem he considers himself a man) and his alcohol. His drunken side varies depending on the occasion, and it’s not always a pleasant thing to be around.Ladies: Donald is the charmer, the lady’s man. He always perks up to the presence of a pretty gal and will do anything to platonically please her. That really goes for girls of all ages—he treats young girls like princesses and older ladies like queens. It’s just in his good nature and will to see women happy no matter whom they are. Therefore, he identifies himself as a ‘gentleman’ of the highest creed. Ha~ On the flip side, he will be pretty weary to girls who are on the ‘scarier’ side. Totally Platonic stuff: First of all, Donald isn’t a virgin ahem. During his ‘lawless’ days, he experienced ‘everything’. Nowadays, Don tries to abide to abstinence since he is taking his ethics and morals as a Protestant a bit more seriously. More of, he just has a little more self-control when it comes to his libido. He’d have no qualms if a woman (or a man I guess) sexually approaches him. It’s just never in his initial intention unless he’s really drunk or depressed. With that said, he still likes to admire and look at ‘naughty’ things. I mean, can’t stop him from being a guy. Gambling: Don is addicted to gambling—with words, decisions, and cut-cold deals. He usually upholds his word, but likes to twist words around like a little snake. When it comes to making deals or promises, he wants to see to it that nobody double-crosses him. He loves certainty and is willing to give it a shot so long he knows it will happen somehow down the road. Uncertainty excites him more than no other. Listeners: He talks a lot. A whole, damn lot. That’s because Donny has a lot to say. He’s the type of person who freely talks about his opinions and theories. It’s embedded in his philosophy to ‘voice’ out what the inner soul has to say—or that is how he recites it. So, it pleases him to see people complying by listening. It’s always good to enlighten other people. Fashion: In the movies, they make it seem as if agents only wear black and white. Well that definitely doesn't go for Don. He dresses as a classy lad in khaki, beige, burgundy--you name it. Check out his closet and he has a colorful array of blazers, ties, leather jackets, hats, designer watches, and shoes. Let's say he's very keen on this sort of stuff. Ships: He's fascinated with ships. He took a field trip when he was a child to the shipyard in Belfest where the famous Titanic was built. Ever since that day, he has been collecting ship models and old ship blueprints. He has paintings and photos of old ships and even owns a little speed boat! He prides himself with that ship he had earned himself through hours of hard work, of which he also had gingerly named 'Belisama'. Music: Don isn't as musically talented his sis, for he can only decently play the flute and occasionally the fiddle or the guitar. As a kid, he wasn't really interested in music or dancing until his ma pestered him into earning talents. He ended up joining a marching band and was forced to take tap dancing classes. Now, he can't do a thing without music and loves to show off his dancing when the time is appropriate or whenever he is drunk. Athletics: The boy does his mum proud by being an athletic lad. It takes some beef to join these kinds of ranks, and boy does Don have the talent to fit the bill. He was a full-on rugby plater and a wrestler during his teen years. After mindless headbutting and a few injuries, he found golf to be just as fun as rugby. In addition, you don't get broken limbs from swinging a club! He loves to play golf and will be more than happy to invite pals to bond over a good hole-in-one. Riddles&folklore: When he was young, he had always played Hide-n-seek with his sister. There was something exhilarating about looking, about seeking, that it made him somewhat of an expert 'looker'. Riddles challenge that mindset. He loves trying to figure out good riddles and hard riddles. Because he enjoys hearing riddles and limerick, he adopted a talent of being able to make up his own. This goes hand-in-hand with his fascination of folklore, legends, and stories. It opens up a creative world for him, allowing him to freely tell stories of adventures and folly while still cleverly adding in a moral verse. The sea: If he can recall a moment of his childhood, it always includes the image of the sea. Even now, he likes to talk walks in the brisk of the morning by the shore. Being anywhere near a large body of water makes feel human and normal. Nothing can really tear him away from the crashing waves, rolling sea foam, and monotonous ebb and flow that give him a sense of tranquility. | Dislikes People who are hard to deal with: Hard-headed, stubborn, horribly prudent AKA pipe up the ass ugh. Anything in that nature would give him such a hard time to connect, first of all. Donny always likes to have a connection or some sort of understanding with his audience. But when they cut him off with some sort of irritable nature, it really shuts him off and annoys him.Untamed cruelty: I mean Donny has a sense of self-righteousness, but it doesn’t always overlap with the way society views justice. Don is a killer and had been a cruel killer, but never did he kill by whim. In the past, his targets had a reason to be killed; Don was that type of killer who always did his research on those who were on the hit list. There had to be a good reason for them to die. Therefore, he’s no fan of torture, the killing of innocent people, and senseless violence. In fact, he will do absolutely anything to get around it, up until the last straws. Morons: Well… according to his standards, that is. His sense of supremacy doesn't really have a cap on it. He claims that they ‘insult his intelligence’ with a stifled chuckle. It’s hard to tell when he means an insult when it is coupled with a laugh or a grin, but when it comes to the topic about intelligence and common sense, he means it. Broken promises: Now this is just called unfair 'business'. Donald has a weird thing where he trusts everyone when there is something that he wants. When he makes a promise, he will keep it. But if someone breaks their promise, it wouldn't be very pleasant to double-cross him. Too much control: Don likes order. Yeah, it’s more like a safety net to fall on if a lapse in judgment were to appear. However, he’s not very fond of following orders strictly. Being a creative lad, he rather enjoys doing things in different ways. Interruptions: Oh yeah that's just rude. Don't interrupt him. It might make things worse. Explicit rudeness: Self-explanatory. Being called English: Do not, I repeat, do NOT call him English. Don’t, please don’t for the love of all that is good in humanity. You may call him Irish okay, that’s fine, just not English. Just. Not. English. |
Aspirations Smooth sailing: Hard work is hard work. Donald likes a challenge, but he likes to relax even more. He hopes to live the rest of his days with as little worries as possible.Teach: He is thinking about possibly going back to a University to do some teaching as a Marine Biologist or something environmental. He's not sure when, but he loves to teach! Unfortunately, he does not have as much time right now. Get in better terms with the family: The Kirklands are notoriously known for the sometimes... not great relationships, or so to speak in lighter terms. He wants to at least be able to get over his grudges and let bygones be bygones. | Insecurities Losing Faith: Donald has been lucky almost all his life. He thinks this is a work of God. So he really doesn't want to lose faith, in fear that he'd lose all the blessings in his life.Small fears: He doesn't like bugs, and he doesn't really like to advertise that around, no matter how silly it seems. Donald can do things for the 'ha-ha, funny guy' stuff but it can be an emasculating thing sometimes. He doesn't like to be looked down on for any reason. Ass-biting past: Not that Donald did a lot of bad things but... he didn't do a lot of good things either. It ruins his clean record. The military changed him, in good ways and bad, but it can't change his stupid actions from his teen years. |
Epilogue
Background
Twenty six years ago, a child was born in Dublin, a couple of minutes shy after his older twin sister, Aoife. The squalling babe was known with the mouthful of a name, "Donald Finnegan O-Neill Kirkland", his middle name then shortened to 'Finn' to save breath of the grandparents. As a wee chubby lad, he was very polite, calm, and meeker than Aoife, who had a contrasting personality. Despite the differences of the two souls, the siblings were close, as if they were joined to the hip. Growing up, he admired his sister's fierceness, a kind of strength that was also displayed by his mum. Pretty much, all his life, he was surrounded by strong women, and that made him respect them very much. He also respects women because was the women who helped him recover from his sickness. Donald was hit with a rare disease that kept him bedridden for weeks. The lady nurses were the kindest to him, and his mum gave him a lot of strength to recover. They said it was pure luck that he recovered so quickly.
As the two grew up with a healthier life style, things began to change around them. Because they were twins, and they were super cute, they were loved by the community. Donald was always exposed to people, and he gradually became more comfortable with socializing. The best of his childhood is from his trips to Belfast with his pa. Although his parents divorced when he was young, he was still very close to his pa. Pa did a lot of work in different countries, and often times, he took Donald with him. Donald marveled over the ocean and he loved the shipyards. Everything about Belfast was incredible to him, and the youngin begged pa for him to live there.
But he was too young to make such decisions! They always came back to Dublin every time. Donald was not able to see Belfast for a while because he and Aoife got contracted with a small acting role. Donald honestly had no idea what he was doing, and only agreed because mum told him to. With time, he came to enjoy acting, especially because it meant having more fun with Aoife.
They became the sensation of the United Kingdom. These twin actors played a mischievous set of twins on a tv show, "Lucky You". This onset their career as a little actor and actress. As he became more sociable, he took the fame graciously. His charming smile and mature interview answers won him a lot of offers and praise. Even better, he had great support from his parents, especially his pa.
The family moved to California in Beverly Hills when Donald was twelve. They settled in there, and did some more acting. Yet the family focused more on life aspirations first, so school was the top priority. Donald was not the brightest, but he was very active in sports and community service. Following his pa (who moved to live in LA with his new wife), Donald joined a protestant youth group and made a lot of connections that way. Because of some domestic disparity, he went solo in acting, and then moved out at the age of seventeen with the help of his pa.
Donald lived in a condo by himself in San Diego under his dad's name. Here, he honed up his swimming techniques to work at Seaworld as a lifeguard and a part-time performer. During his time of independence... he did get into some trouble, and he was jailed for a couple of nights because of some acts of violence and alcohol abuse.
After gradating high school at the age of 17, he joined the US Navy for three years to straighten up his attitude. When he came back, Donald changed completely as a man, and then he went to UCLA to study in the entertainment industry for two years. Once he graduated, Donald applied to a radio station, 042.2 APH FM, and by sheer luck, he got the job. He stuck with it for three years, and had a lot of fun.
His voice was favored amongst listeners, especially younger girls. His popularity also hit him with an offer to be a TV host for American Idol. From hereon, he did a lot of a hosting on television. Ever the hard worker, he juggled between his job as a radio personality and a host. Donald is starting his acting career again and has been doing less on the radio, and to be honest, he's got the jitters! He acted in the UK, but he does not have much experience with how American celebrities are. Here's to the blarney stone, a kiss for luck!
