Act 2
Personality
+Personable; Though she might come off as guarded or a little shy at first, Alice is a kind individual. She's had plenty of experience with people from all walks of life and has adapted an ability to conduct herself with all of them. There's a sweetness in her that can be pulled out easily, even if that aspect of her personality causes her some embarrassment. She's especially outgoing when it comes to things that she's interested in -- like at conventions, Alice is very keen on talking with people and fans.+Charitable/Humanitarian; Alice is very involved in several charity and human rights organizations, mostly ones involving children and gay rights. She makes it a point to not limit it to financial donations and will actively volunteer for events or fundraisers. Being a humanitarian gives her a sense of pleasure and Alice will gladly devote herself to causes that she believes in.
+Practical/Good Head For Business; having been in the film world since she was a child, Alice is very well-informed about how things operate. She knows how to avoid getting conned in a film contract, knows when to stand firm with directors when in an uncomfortable position, and can navigate her way through bad press surrounding co-stars. Alice is skilled at negotiating contracts with studios. She has a gut instinct for projects that are going to turn out poorly to avoid them.
+Maternal/Great With Kids; Even despite her dislike of being perceived as one, Alice loves kids. She is great with them because she knows how to get down on their level rather than condescending them. When on set with child actors she makes it a point to try to make them feel comfortable and doesn't mind giving them advice when they ask for it. Since she would love to have children of her own one day she considers this great practice.
+Devoted/Loyal; In her circle of loved ones and friends, she is fiercely loyal. There are lots of temptations in the film industry that is full of beautiful people with similar interests. Even in the rare occasions where she is filling a love interest role, Alice is very good about setting boundaries so that people know not to try to cross that line. She's also got a few directors that she will work with no matter what the project because they have treated her well and she wants them to be successful.
-Shrewd; she can be cautious around people upon first meeting. This can lend the impression that she is gruff in personality but that is only until she comes to trust them. That is just a defense that was built up through so long of being in a business where deception is common.
-Prone to Jealousy; her insecurities can cause her to be envious of others. Alice isn't great with processing jealousy in a mature way, so this can result in her behaving like a child when those envious feelings rear their ugly head. This can also happen when she feels that she is being ignored around other women and is at it's worst when people seek to woo Elaine.
-Image Destructive; It's become a bad habit of hers to do things that will break her out of her child star mold. Before settling down into marriage she made it a point to frequent pubs, take up a smoking habit (which isn't really a smoking habit because she hates the taste but more for show) and had her agent let slip rumors for the tabloids that she was partying hard (which is also a difficult publicity ruse to uphold when she generally falls asleep early). She's trying very hard to make herself seem on par with the destructive socialites but doesn't have any real motivation to commit to being truly destructive. Alice 'trashed' a hotel room once (that only involved her pushing the mattress off the bed and taking the curtains down from the windows. She later rang the hotel in remorse and offered to pay for the added time it took them to put everything straight again.). She's not very good at being bad but she really wants people to believe it's in her!
-Closet Geek; She can be a hardcore fan girl, especially when it comes to things like Anime, movies, or other media. Alice is not proud of the fact she feels driven to buy tons of merchandise, or that in the presence of an artist she likes she might freeze up and squeal in a manner unbecoming of a lady. The majority of her collection is jammed inside one room, since it tends to clash with her wife's aesthetic. While this isn't a bad trait it is something that she is self-conscious of because it makes her feel childish.
Quirks
-Accent; the United Kingdom is a chaotic blend of them depending on regions. Alice has polished hers into a more universal stereotype of how people think people from the region sound. Not too posh but at least one clear enough that American fans don't get too confused or require subtitles.-Food/Beverage Snobbery; she was raised in a British household, with observed tea times and a general disdain for food that isn't 'wholesome British cuisine'. While Alice has broken most of these habits she is still heavily partial to tea as a beverage of choice. She doesn't enjoy the taste of coffee and refuses to ever set foot into a 'fast food' restaurant. It's more likely that she'll be found in classy restaurants where she can dress nicely and use her best manners.
-Default Anglophile; national pride is part of her identity. Yes, she can give you a basic history of the United Kingdom. Yes, she has kept up with British television and films well enough to know what's current news in shows, can quote Monty Python for laughs, and can fire off snippets of lore well enough to win a lively game of Trivial Pursuit. And yes, she's enough of a proper Brit that she can carry on small talk about fascinating topics like the weather, sports, and is also adept at delivering infinitely polite backhanded compliments.
-British Humour/Wit; Often imitated, never duplicated. Alice shares the dry, sardonic wit that is typical amongst the natives of her country. There's a general thread of sarcasm laced beneath otherwise innocuous commentary when she's in a mode for humor. It helps her to be prepared with snappy comebacks when a situation requires putting another individual in their place. Of course, it's all done in good fun, without much malice. Unless the situation calls for it.
Act 3
Likes -Japanese fashion; can pull off the Lolita look-Marathoning old Classic Hollywood films in her pajamas -Sewing (when Elaine allows her to help) -Modeling: This makes her feel like a more mature-looking woman -Formal tea parties -Music; she's partial to heavy rock and pop, and the classic British bands -West End shows; makes it a point to attend as many opening nights as she can -Anglophiles; seriously, they make it seem like having an accent is a major achievement -High Fashion; she's learning an appreciation for it from Elaine -Married life; honestly, it feel like she's always been meant for it. Elaine is a solid foundation that gives her strength -Anime Conventions; she's been hooked on them ever since she won a cosplay contest as Sailor Moon. There is a poorly hidden geek beneath that pretty face but she attempts to keep the degree of it under wraps. | Dislikes -Press Conferences; while promotion is great, the circuit is usually full of questions she'd prefer not to answer-Tabloids; gossip magazines are the worst, especially in the United Kingdom -Rain/Humidity; it's devilishly bad for her hair, and there's lots of it to go wrong -Stalkers; what's worse is that her stalkers come from a very particular part of society and it makes her uncomfortable to be objectified as a 'young girl' -Flying/Aeroplanes; it's the most convenient form of travel yet she still hates the hassle of using it and would prefer to stay on the ground if possible -Sweets; they just don't appeal to her -Her Film Legacy; her first major feature role was in the part of a boy. And it's been very slowly developing that she is starting to get into roles of older characters after a long period of playing children -Homophobes; this is part of the challenge of being in a wedded relationship with another woman. There are regular events of negative opinions from people that she has to deal with from the public. |
Aspirations -Getting her degree as an English Major; something to fall back on would be nice, and Alice wants to have a plan for her future.-Screenwriting; as much as she loves being on the screen, she also has a desire to become an established screenwriter for productions. It's just difficult making the transition without any experience or a degree to back her up. -Landing a part in an episode of Doctor Who. Practically every other British actor/actress has been on it, so it would be a great achievement. -Adoption; having a little family would be wonderful. | Insecurities -Body insecurity: Alice is sensitive about her lack of a feminine figure. It was far worse before her marriage. She is envious of women that were blessed with superior assets.-Jealous: It's no question that Elaine is the epitome of a social butterfly. A lovely butterfly to behold. Alice's insecurities cause her to become difficult when people approach the woman to give her what is perceived as too much or too friendly attention. -Typecasting: It's very limiting, the roles that she is able to perform. Alice is worn on the notion of playing another daughter or young girl in a film, even though she acknowledges that her looks fit them better than a love interest or curvy heroine. -Age Obsession: Even a young actress gets nervous about aging beyond use. She's very good about taking care of her body, between diet and exercise. Some days she just wants to eat a whole damned cake though. |
Epilogue
Background
Alice was born in Liverpool, England. Her mother was a professional caterer and her father was an established set designer. Their connections landed Alice her first minor role as an extra in a few advertisements. It sparked a love for the business in the girl, and with the help of her parents she began landing larger parts. Her breakout role was starring in a remake of Oliver Twist, where Alice was cast in the role of Oliver. Little did she realize that it would lead many people to confusing her for a boy despite her obvious female name. She continued to work all throughout the rest of her teen years. Alice attended regular schooling between films, and continued her education on-set with private tutors so that she did not fall behind her peers. She succeeded in graduating with top marks and made sure to keep an active social life outside of the business. Alice remains close with her family, maintaining strong relationships while juggling with her fame. Lately she has begun to explore the idea of advancing her education to achieve an English major. Having had exposure to plenty of scripts, she would love to become a screenwriter.
When Alice started looking to getting herself into less youthful roles, her agent put her in touch with a fashionista named Elaine Bonnefoy. Though there was a little rockiness in the beginning as their cultural differences had them bumping heads, it turned out to be a perfect partnership. Alice was able to learn to better appreciate her body wearing Elaine's fashions, and Elaine found a muse to inspire her to create more designs. This arrangement soon blossomed into a romance and it wasn't long before the two women were wedded. The lavish affair was the talk of the tabloids for several weeks.
Her marriage gave Alice a new sense of empowerment. She has become firmer in negotiations for film contracts, and will never agree to any terms unless she has discussed it with Elaine. If there is anything that the other woman does not agree to then Alice will not pursue it unless the objections are handled accordingly. She'll also do everything in her power to make sure that Elaine is hired on for whatever costume design might be needed on her projects because she wants to see her wife be even more successful. Plus, it's fun going to award galas together where they can cheer each other on.
